St. Patrick’s Achieve Green Flag Award
Eco-conscious pupils at St Patrick’s Primary School Dungannon have been awarded a Green Flag Award for their work to make their school more environmentally aware.
The school achieved the Eco-Schools accolade in recognition of its efforts to promote environmental issues through its pupil-led eco-council.
The members, who come from Primary 7, 6, 5 and 4 have launched a range of projects, including an eco-code to encourage others in school to be more environmentally friendly, a waste recycling scheme and a climate change and healthy lifestyle campaign.
The eco-council and their lead teachers Mrs Maguire and Mrs McKenna are to be commended for their efforts over the last year. All pupils were able to participate in a special celebration to mark the event.
Mr Seamus McCreesh, school principal said, “It’s fantastic to see how passionate the pupils are about environmental causes and what they can do to encourage everyone within our school and the local community to be more eco-conscious.
