P4 carry out a science experiment!
12th Nov 2024
On Friday, Mrs McGirr's class carried out a science experiment to investigate how plants absorb water from the soil. The children made their own flowers using kitchen paper towel. They added food colouring to different containers with water. The children then placed their flowers into the coloured water and observed what happened to their flowers. We observed the kitchen paper towel absorbing the water and the we observed how the flowers began to take the colour of the water. We learnt that a flower absorbs water from the roots of the plant. This water then travels up the stem and into the leaves of the flower, nourishing the plant. As part of our experiment, we discussed how to make this experiment a fair test. We really enjoyed carrying out this experiment!
